MILLTOWN – Allen William Polk, 79, entered the gates of heaven after a long battle with cancer Sept. 18, 2005. He was the son of Ralph H. Polk and Harriet (Thompson) Polk. He was a disabled veteran and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was employed by Georgia Pacific Paper Company for 23 years. He worked as a lumberjack in his early years, drove for Wilson’s and Polk’s Taxi, as well as for Washington County Transportation services for 20 years. He was district commander, as well as a lifetime member of the VFW, member of the American Legion, past grand chancellor commander of Anchor Lodge No. 41 of Eastport, Knights of Pythias. He was a dual member of the International 161 of N.B. Knights of Pythias, past commander of Faris Nomads of D.O.K.K., he was past assistant boy scout master in Baileyville, and is fondly remembered as colonel church and Santa by many people, a part he has played in the Calais community over the past 20 years. He was predeceased by three sisters, and two brothers, Rachel, Arlene, Phyllis, Vinton and Kenneth. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Freda Marie (Downing) Polk; sister, Al-freda (Polk) Morrison of Baileyville; 10 children, Ralph and his wife, Valerie, Allen Jr. and his wife, Heather, of Calais, Richard and his wife, Deborah, of Springfield, Mis., Dennis, Rita, Eric, David, Christopher, Kevin and his wife, Elizabeth, of Calais, and Lorna Polk Macphee and husband, Kevin, of Hampton, N.B., Canada; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, all of which loved, adore, and miss him dearly. A special thanks is sent out to Patrick Cole and family, Pastor Bobby Hinton, and to those who provided him hospice care. Service will be held 1 p.m. Sept. 24, at the Second Baptist Church, in Calais. Pastors Bob Hinton and Chris Stevens will be officiating. Burial will be in the Calais Cemetery with reception following at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent in his name to Ralph Polk, P.O. 1284, Calais, ME 04619.
