BANGOR – Alphena H. Proudman, 86, died peacefully Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at a Bangor health care facility. Alphena was born July 12, 1921, in Old Town, the daughter of the late Henry and Imelda Cyr. Alphena attended Old Town schools and worked at the University of Maine in housekeeping. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, playing Beano, doing word finds, taking day trips and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Albert Cyr, Alfred Cyr, Arthur “Dizzy” Cyr, Kenneth Cyr and Robert Cyr; and her sister, Rose Richardson. She is survived by her brother, Victor Cyr and his wife, Judy; her sisters, Joan Brown, Theresa Day, Thelma Keezer and her husband, Leslie, Juliette Richardson and Jeannette Soule; several nieces and nephews. Alphena is also survived by her loving daughter, Theresa Winchester and husband, Larry; and her favorite and only grandson, Brian Lee and his wife, Andrea. The family gives a special thanks to the caregivers at Westgate Manor and to Carolyn Brennan-Alley, for their care of Alphena. A funeral service was held 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, at Holy Family Church, 429 Main St., Old Town. Interment was immediately after the service at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Old Town. Services entrusted to the care of Birmingham Funeral Home, Old Town.
