CHARLOTTE – Alton L. Sawyer, 84, died Dec. 15, 2003, at a Calais hospital. Born March 9, 1919, in Pembroke, the son of Edward and Lora (Brown) Sawyer. He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence in 1943; and wife, Barbara (Cook) Sawyer in 1994. Alton is survived by one son, Dick and Dolly Sawyer of Charlotte; two brothers, Ken and Ruth Sawyer, Clayton and Thursa Sawyer, all of Charlotte; two sisters, Florence Hatton of Charlotte, Eleanor and Bill Baker of Calais; two grandchildren, Darlene and Mike Horne of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, June and David Fry of Charlottesville, Va.; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Joshua and Jared Fry, all of Charlottesville, Va. Friends may call 10 a.m. Thursday until time of service at 11 a.m. at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Pastors Gary Kinney and Ernest James will officiate. Burial will be in the Clarkside Cemetery, Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charlotte Baptist Church or a charity of one’s choice.
