GRAND LAKE STREAM – Alvah Gene Harriman, 59, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at his home. Alvah was born Oct. 30, 1946, in Calais, son of the late Alonzo and Grace (Seamans) Harriman. He served in the U.S. Army Engineers during the Vietnam War and retired after 20 years of service. Alvah married Robin Famolare May 17, 1976, in Belton, Texas. After retiring from the Army, Alvah returned to Maine and became a registered Maine master guide for the last 21 years. He was a member of the Maine Professional Guide Association, the Grand Lake Stream Guide Association and Lewy’s Island Lodge No. 138 AF & AM. Alvah enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul Harriman. Surviving are his loving wife of more than 30 years, Robin Harriman; three children, Scott Harriman of Woodland, Kim Harriman and Laura Eldridge of Pembroke, N.H. and Cathy Ober and husband, John, of Woburn, Mass.; two brothers, Frank Alan Harriman and wife, Sherrill, of Clarksville, Tenn. and Roger Harriman and fiance, Becky Thornton, of Tomah; three grandchildren, McKenna Grace Harriman, Alex Harriman Ober and Elizabeth Grace Ober; three nephews, Nathan, Taylor and John Harriman; and longtime friend, Bob Upham of Grand Lake Stream. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Union Congregational Church, Grand Lake Stream with Pastor Rolfe Flood officiating. Burial will be after in the Village Cemetery.
