BURLINGTON – Alvah Leon Sibley Jr., 79, died June 3, 2005, at the Penobscot Valley Hospital, in Lincoln. Alvah was born May 10, 1926, in Grand Falls, to Alvah Leon Sibley Sr. and Marenia (Hurd) Sibley. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 158. He retired from Power House in Lisbon Falls. He was an avid fisherman and camper. He enjoyed hunting and carpentry. One of his biggest loves in life was his vegetable garden that provided for his children and their families for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Eva (Raymond) Sibley; and his six children, Judy Galinat and her husband, John, of Canterbury, Conn., Alvah Leon III and his wife, Jocelyn, of Manchester, Conn., Gary Sibley of Auburn, Jean Morton and her husband, Robert, of Greene, Kenneth Sibley of Auburn, and Roger Sibley and his wife, Doris, of New Portland; a brother, Francis Sibley of Burlington; three sisters, Carolyne Boyington of Fryeburg, Kathleen Zinkle and her husband, Gerry, of Carnation, Wash., and Shirley Campbell of Bucksport; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great- grandchildren. Also surviving him are many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Woodrow and Franklin Sibley; and two sisters, Thelma Harriman and Hortense Farrington. A chapel service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, followed by a reception for family and friends.
