ELLSWORTH – Amy T. Carter, 50, died April 23, 2008, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. She was born Jan. 24, 1958, in Portland, the daughter of Wilbert and Joan M. (Robinson) Terry. She graduated from Mount Desert Island High School and Westbrook College School of Nursing, where she received her associate’s degree. She also attended Husson College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science Amy worked at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and in Orlando, Fla., and for the last 26 years she was employed at Eastern Maine Medical Center, where she was instrumental in many NNIC programs there, but especially known for founding the CUDDLE Program. She loved camping with her family and friends. She also enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife and just sitting at Seawall beach. Amy fought a courageous battle with cancer, working one week and taking chemo the next, throughout a period of six years. She worked until late June 2007, when she could not do it any longer. She believed until the end, God would give her a miracle, many believe God did not, but God relieved her of all the pain and suffering she has endured, that is the miracle. Amy is survived by her beloved husband, Michael H. Carter; her son, Joshua T. Conary; nephew, Chad Terry and wife, Mindy; niece, Stacy Elliott; son, Tyler; stepchildren, Jason Conary and wife, Laura and their children, Jordan and Ryan, Joseph Conary, Ashley Carter, Nicholas Carter and Matthew Carter; and brother-in-law, Edger E. Elliott. Amy is also survived by her pets, Lilly and Cheddar. Amy had many special friends, both at home and work, to numerous to mention each one, but you all know who you are. She was predeceased by her sister, Kim J. Elliott. Friends are invited to call 4-6 p.m. Friday, April 25, at Jordan-Fernald, 1139 Main St., Mount Desert, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday with Pastor Blake Brown officiating.
