AUGUSTA – On March 3, 2008, Ann H. Dority, 65, of Ridgewood Drive, left her husband and family to travel that last journey that we all must take, to a better place where there is no pain or suffering, and love and joy abound. She was born Feb. 8, 1943, in Damariscotta, to Reginald D. and Edith Perry Hall. She was a graduate of Lincoln Academy, Newcastle, and Westbrook Junior College, Portland. She married John Dority, of Readfield, Aug. 24, 1963, in the Congregational Church, Newcastle. The couple spent their first years of marriage raising a family of three daughters, Johnna, Amanda and Dianna. During this time, Ann was a Girl Scout leader, and enjoyed boating and camping with her family. In 1974, the family moved to northern Maine when John was promoted to division engineer for the Maine Department of Transportation, DOT. They settled in Caribou, where Ann became very active in the community. In the years there, Ann worked as director of Volunteers and Public Relations at Cary Medical Center. She continued as a Girl Scout leader, and was president of the hospital auxiliary. In the later years, she became first a member, and then the chairperson of the board of directors of the Nylander Museum. She was also a volunteer liaison between Cary Medical Center and Caribou High School, helping students interested in pursuing a career in the health field by exposing them to the hospital environment. She loved “The County” and had many good friends there. The family returned to the Augusta area in 1984, when John was again promoted to the director of Maintenance and Operations for DOT. For the first few years back in Augusta, Ann worked for the Bureau of Labor, and as a consultant for Fort Western Museum. She was diagnosed with a major medical problem in the early 1990s and had to retire, focusing all of her remaining strength on just staying alive and managing the family home. Ann would like to be remembered as the fisherman in the family. Wonderful days were spent fishing many of the lakes in Maine. Ann never went a day without landing at least one keeper, much to the chagrin of her husband, who could not make that boast. Ann is survived by her husband, her best friend and soul mate, John; daughter, Johnna Doucet and husband, Robert, of Manchester, N.H.; daughter, Amanda Beckwith and husband, Edward, of Augusta; daughter, Dianna Dority of Lewiston; grandsons, Daniel J. Doucet and James C. Beckwith; two brothers, John R. Hall and wife, Paula, of Bristol, and Mark R. Hall of Portland; and two sisters, Jane H. Planty of Florida and Mary H. York of Nobleboro. Visiting will be held 5-8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Friday at Green Street United Methodist Church, Augusta, with the Rev. Karen Garcia officiating. There will be a committal service and an afternoon of remembrance to be held this spring in the Damariscotta area. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Damariscotta. www.khrfuneralhomes.com
