BREWER – Ann Marie Bernadette (Hourihan) Frederick, 74, died Feb. 17, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born May 27, 1929, in Newburgh Junction, New Brunswick, the daughter of Sylvester E. and Bridget A. (McDonaugh) Hourihan. Ann was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church of Brewer, and James A. Taylor Nurses Auxiliary of Bangor. She worked for many years as a LPN at James A. Taylor Hospital and other various nursing facilities until her retirement in 1982. Ann then opened her home for 23 years and became a certified foster care provider. She was also known as “Nana” and “Grammy Ann” and enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and especially taking trips and spending time with family. Surviving are seven children: Dorothy Clark of Bangor, Paula and her husband, Clayton Cole, of East Corinth, James Frederick and his wife, Sally, of Ontario, Canada, Katherine and her husband, Shawn Johnson, of Holden, Darien Frederick and his wife, Dee, of Dedham, Dana Frederick and his wife, Michelle, of Florida, Shawn Frederick of Brewer; five grandchildren, Joseph Clark and his wife, Missy, of Millinocket, Tammy and her husband, Sargent Gary McNeely, of Colorado, Heather Carlisle and her fianc‚, Peter Hartson of Trenton, Christian and Chelsea Frederick of Dedham; three stepgrandchildren, Casey Freeman, DJ and Joseph Fortin of Florida; two great-grandsons, Nathanial McNeely of Colorado, and Michael Clark of Millinocket; one brother, Edwin Hourihan and his wife, Maria, of Toronto; one sister, Margaret Hourihan of Toronto; two sisters-in-law, Marian Hourihan of Nova Scotia, and Catherine Hourihan of Toronto; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; one very special friend, Gladys Mechura. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph K. Frederick; two brothers, Francis and Earl Hourihan; one sister, Caroline and her husband, Maurice McGillicuddy; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Frederick, Margaret Kavanaugh; and brother-in-law, Cedric Kavanaugh. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 425 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Joel Cyr pastor, celebrant. Spring Interment will be in Newburgh, New Brunswick. Gifts in Ann’s memory may be made to St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 425 South Main St., Brewer.
