DOVER-FOXCROFT – Anna “Lou” Kinney, 92, died peacefully July 22, 2006, at the Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Anna was born Sept. 23, 1913, in Dover-Foxcroft, the daughter of Ensign and Effie (Donald) Ellis. At two years old, Anna moved to East Sangerville where she resided until graduating from eight grade. At 13 years old, she moved to Dover-Foxcroft and attended Foxcroft Academy. In 1934, she married Aaron Norman Kinney and they had four children, Gerald “Jerry” Cecil, Elizabeth “Lizbeth” Janice, Norman Robert and Suzanne “Sue” Mae. Anna was a devoted wife and mother and loved taking care of her family. She also cherished her “little Cape Cod” home on Mayo Street, which her husband, Aaron, and his father, RFD mailman Perry J. Kinney, built in 1937. She was a Brownie Scout leader and gave and received much love from her many caretakers at Hibbards’. Anna especially loved children and for years made her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and special little friends Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. Anna retained a special appreciation for East Sangerville and Sangerville Village. She often shared with her children the treasured memories of her early life there, recalling crushing butternuts to frost a cake she helped a neighbor make for her and her 8th grade graduation on the stage of East Sangerville Grange. Over the years, Anna enjoyed attending Democratic fundraising dinners at the Grange and potluck suppers at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Sangerville and Dover-Foxcroft with her daughter, Sue, and grandchildren, Chris, Missy and Ryan. Anna was a member of the United Baptist Church for many years and after the death of her husband, joined the United Methodist Church of Dover-Foxcroft, until her failing health made attendance difficult. In 1989, Anna left her home of 52 years on Mayo Street, moving to Oakes Manor, Sangerville, where she lived until the spring of 2000, then moving to the Inn at Village Square, Gorham. She returned to Dover-Foxcroft in February of 2003, residing at the Hibbard Nursing Home. Anna was predeceased by her parents; sister, Ruth Skillins McKusick; her husband of 48 years, Aaron Kinney, in 1976; son, Jerry Kinney in 1992; grandchildren, Vicki in 1963 and Tate Bark in 1996; two brothers, Edson and Richard Ellis; and brother-in-law, Herbert Pennington.
