DEEP RIVER, Conn., and ST. ALBANS – Anna Patricia (Vining) Merrill, 75, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, surrounded by her family at Middlesex Hospital after a long illness. Born in St. Albans, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Vining and Elsie Kinney; and wife of the late Clayton Merrill, who was the love of her life. Mrs. Merrill, a cherished friend and neighbor, loved playing cards, cooking and spending her summers with family in Maine. She had been active in the Deep River Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, worked at Finast for 17 years and co-owned and founded, with Clayton, the Merrill Tool Co. The couple enjoyed camping and traveling on their converted Greyhound bus. Her fun-loving personality will be missed by all. Her family thanks all who provided her care. She is survived by a son, Gary C. Merrill and wife, Vanessa, of Hartland; a daughter, Sharon M. McCann and husband, Michael, of Deep River, Conn.; two sisters and one brother, Jackie McCourtney and husband, Paul, of Rockwood, Helen Springer and husband, Laurence, of North Berwick and Clifford Vining and wife, Thelma, of Newport; and many nieces and nephews. Anna leaves behind seven granddaughters, Tiffany Dodge of St. Albans, Rhonda Merrill of Plymouth, Melanie Merrill and her children, Erik and Shayna Isabelle, all of Manchester, N.H., Kathleen McCann of Silver Spring, Md., Kristie McCann Passalacqua of Rumford, R.I., Kelley McCann of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Kimberley McCann of Los Angeles. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Deep River First Congregational Church. An additional memorial service and burial will be held this summer in St. Albans. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her name to the St. Albans Fire Department, Water Street, St. Albans, ME 04971.
