BREWER – Anna R. Watkins, 69, died July 21, 2007, with her children by her side at a Bangor health care center, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 17, 1937, in Lancaster, N.H., the daughter of Hollis F. and Pauline (Crawford) Sawyer. Anna, wife of the late John “Jack” P. Watkins, grew up in northern New Hampshire and was a 1955 graduate of Groveton High School. She moved with her family to the Bangor area in 1972. She worked for many years at Eastern Maine Medical Center, where she held a variety of positions, eventually retiring from Affiliated Healthcare Systems as director of the physician referral service, to start her own antiques and collectibles business. Anna’s family and friends always came first. She helped many people in many quiet ways over the course of her life, and her legacy will continue. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy L. Watkins of Brewer; and son-in-law, Douglas S. Clawson; her son, James “Jim” P. Watkins of Orrington; two grandchildren, Emily K. Watkins and Jack J. Watkins of Orrington; a sister, Bethany L. Doyon of Lancaster, N.H.; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles; as well as her loyal feline companion, Penny. She was predeceased by her husband in 1985; her brother, Richard D. Sawyer in 2003; and stepfather, George P. Ververis Sr. in 2004. Friends in Maine may visit 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer, where a memorial service will be held 7 p.m. with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson, presiding. Services will be held Friday in New Hampshire. Burial will be at Northumberland Cemetery, Groveton, N.H.
