PATTEN – Anna V. Hanson, 92, went to be with her Lord July 9, 2006, at Bangor. She was born Feb. 7, 1914, in Sherman Station, the daughter of John G. and Dora A. (Giles) Hanson. She was the eldest of 14 children. Anna became a successful schoolteacher and taught in Patten schools for 32 years. Some of her own siblings were her students. She was known for her strong gentle discipline. Even today some of her grown students comment on what an influence she had on their lives. Anna attended Bible school in Portland and went on to Farmington where she earned her teaching degree. She was a devoted member of the Patten Pentecostal Church, a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, treasurer and pianist. After her retirement she became caretaker for several elderly people. Some were her own relatives. She was always available and ready to do the Lord’s work, whenever called upon. Anna was a role model and special person that touched so many lives, and she was a truly respected lady. Anna was known for her wonderful cooking and loved to read, knit and crochet. Her creations were always shared by many. Anna was fortunate to have so many loving family members around her to provide her the care she needed. She showed her appreciation in many wonderful ways. She will always be remembered for her gentle ways, kind heart, wit, and most of all, her love of the Lord. She is survived by three brothers and two sisters, Earl and his wife, Teresa Hanson, of Patten, Clara and her husband, Adin Clark, of Bangor, Reginald and his wife, Lenore Hanson, of Patten, Esther and her husband, Rodney “Pat” Lord Sr., of Patten, Cecil and his wife, Joanne Hanson, of Dunstable, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by six sisters and two brothers, Inzo Hanson, Winona Birmingham, Etta McQuarrie, Hilda McQuarrie, Catherine Neuhaus, Lilla Bossie and John and Darrell Hanson. The family would like to thank all of her caretakers for all of their help for the last two years. Friends may call 11 a.m.-noon Wednesday, July 12, at the Patten Pentecostal Church where funeral services will be held noon with her nephew, Rodney Lord, and Pastor Sam DeWitt officiating.
