PORTLAND – Anna Wyman Gellerson, 92, passed away Sept. 12, 2006, at her residence, after a brief illness. She was born March 26, 1914, in Winthrop, Mass., the youngest child of Edwin H. Wyman Sr. and Betsy Knudsen Wyman. Anna lived many years of her childhood on the banks of the Eastern River in Dresden with her two brothers, Edwin Jr., Albert and sister, Maud. She graduated from Everett, Mass. High School, Class of 1930. She was employed by New England Telephone in Boston, and State Mutual Insurance, Portland. She met George B. Gellerson on a blind date arranged by her brother, Edwin “Buck” Wyman in August 1940. They were engaged Dec. 22, 1945, after his return from serving in the U.S. Army in Europe in World War II and married April 7, 1946. She lived in North Anson, until 1958, when she moved to Falmouth with her family. She was a resident of Portland at the time of her death. She was a member of Embroiderer’s Guild, Women’s Literary Union, cooperative extension and the Falmouth Congregational Church. She cherished the time with her friends playing cards and cribbage while living at Canco Woods and taking part in the trips sponsored by the Portland Recreational Department. She enjoyed traveling and was proud of her Norwegian heritage, so much so, that she journeyed to Norway with her sister many years ago. Her son’s families and their extended families were a focus of her life in later years. Anna was predeceased by her husband, George, Aug. 25, 1971. Anna is survived by her son, Peter of Gray, his wife, Deborah and granddaughter, Kelley; son, Mark of Bethesda, Md. and Cairo, Egypt, his wife, Evi and granddaughters, Daphne, Tessa and Olivia; many nieces, nephews and family friend, Donna Lawler. Anna’s family thanks her many friends for their kindness and compassion, the wonderful staff at the Cedars Nursing Home and Beacon Hospice personnel who cared for her in her final days and special friends, Irma and Fred Baker of Falmouth for their years of friendship. A period of visitation will be held noon-2 p.m. Sunday at Jones, Rich, & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Interment will be at Sunset Cemetery, North Anson.
