BANGOR – Annie K. Brountas, 82, wife of the late Charles G. Brountas, died April 11, 2005, at her Bangor home. She was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Lewiston, the daughter of Nikitas and Dorothy (Berry) Kesaris. Annie graduated with honors from Lewiston High School and attended Bates College. She was listed in the 2nd and 3rd editions of Who’s Who of American Women. She worked as an immigration officer for 16 years at Bangor International Airport. She had served as president of the YWCA, chairman of the Bangor School Board, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Education, president of the Philoptohos Society, president of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, director of United Cerebral Palsy of Northeastern Maine and regent of Frances William D.A.R. Annie painted and sculptured under the pseudonym XAN. She is survived by one daughter, Frances Hardy; two sons, George and Charles; one brother, Nicholas Kesaris; nine grandsons, two great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Andrew Brountas. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2005, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 90 Sanford St., Bangor, with the Rev. Adam Metropoulos, presbyter, officiating. Burial will be a Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Arrangements by Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor.
