MILLINOCKET – Arlene S. McClain, 91, passed away peacefully at her home, Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, surrounded by her family. She was born April 19, 1914, in Millinocket the daughter of Granvill and Stella (Harris) MacMillan. Arlene was a lifelong resident of Millinocket and the wife of the late Eugene McClain, who died in 1961. Arlene graduated from Gorham Normal School with a degree in education and earned her masters degree from the University of Maine at Orono. Many will remember Arlene for her love of teaching. Friends and family remember Arlene for her kind words, her generosity, and her love of reading. Arlene was an avid bridge player, a wonderful cook and homemaker, an adventurous traveler, and an animal lover. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Millinocket, Past Matron of Onawa Chapter No. 130, Order of Eastern Star, a charter member of the Literary Club, and a member of the Kappa Delta Gamma Society. In addition to her husband, Arlene was preceded in death by her two brothers, James and Ronald MacMillan, who died and are buried in Dover, Del. She is survived by her beloved family, her two sons, Scott McClain and Robert McClain both of Millinocket; two grandchildren, Shawn McClain of Hollis and Amy Spagone and her husband, Kevin, of Guilford, Conn.; two special friends, Darlene Stormann and Sandy McMillan Hallowell. Arlene is also survived by two nieces, Judy Ulrich and Ann Alexander; three nephews, James MacMillan, Donald MacMillan, and Douglas MacMillan. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at R. L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the First Congregational Church. The Rev. Carolyn Bradley, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Millinocket Cemetery.
