HAMPDEN and CARTHAGE, N.Y. – Arnold Paul Bennett, 59, husband of Dorothy (Westphal) Bennett, passed away Oct. 13, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Nov. 28, 1946, in Newburg, N.Y., the son of Harry A. and Dorothy (Anesi) Bennett. Arnold was a former police officer for six years and a village justice for 10 years in Carthage, N.Y. He dedicated his life to health and safety. Arnie worked for area paper mills in Carthage, N.Y., and in Old Town as a safety director. He later worked for himself as an independent safety inspector. Arnold was an avid wood worker, boater and fisherman. He and his family had many wonderful times on their boat, especially on Lake Ontario, a place that Arnie loved very much. Another passion of his was hot rods, which he liked to tinker on. His most recent project, which he just completed, was his 1956 Chevy hot rod. Arnold was a member and past president of the Northern Tier Trap League and a member of the Carthage Rod and Gun Club. He was a lover of golden retrievers, especially his dog, Lady. Arnie is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Dorothy of Hampden; his parents, Harry and Dorothy Bennett of Glenfield, N.Y.; his son, Arnold W. “Arnie” Bennett and his wife, Susan, of Harmony, R.I.; his daughter, Ann M. Covey and her husband, Dale, of Hampden; a brother, Mark Bennett and his wife, Linda, of Glenfield, N.Y.; a sister, Ellie Gardeiner of Fayetteville, N.C.; his grandchildren, Chelsea and Savana Covey, David Bennett, Jeremy Oliver, Justin Belisle, Jason Cormier, Deanna Bennett, David Prest, Brandie Prest and Jamie Bennett; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Bennett, who will be lighting the way home. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a time of remembrance will be shared 7:30 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev.
