BANGOR – Arnold S. Grotton, 79, died March 2, 2008, surrounded by his loving family, at his home. He was born Oct. 19, 1928, in Glen Cove, son of Charles S. and Emma F. (Dennison) Grotton. Arnold was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1947, and served in the Maine Army National Guard for 20 years, retiring as a major. He worked in a number of family owned businesses including, Grotton Motors, Charles S. Grotton & Son, Mobil service station, State Street at Broadway, the Atlantic Clarion Stove Co. and the Ebb Tide Motel, Brewer. He retired from Sears & Roebuck Co. in 1981. Arnold will be remembered as a loving husband and father, an avid bowler and a longtime summer resident of Swan Lake. Surviving are his wife, Bobbie (Haynes) Grotton of Bangor; and her son, Lewis and his family of Old Town; two children, Nancy J. Grotton of Portland, Ore., and Robert A. Grotton and his wife, Maggie, of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Ian, Connor and Michael, all of Cincinnati; nieces and nephews. A celebration of Arnold’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately after the celebration Saturday at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
