SKOWHEGAN – Arthur D. Bowman, 76, formerly of Bangor, died Tues-day, July 3, 2007, at Redington-Fairview General Hospital, Skowhegan. He was born April 4, 1931, in Cornville, the son of Donald Bowman and Mae (Burton) Prouty. Arthur was first married to Elsie Coffey and then he was married to Marion Bowman, she passed several years ago. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as an air policeman in England. He was employed by the University of Maine in Orono as a plumber for 27 years, until retiring in 1993. He was a member of the American Legion Post, Orono. He loved to hunt and fish, he was a member of the Biggest Bucks of Maine Club, he enjoyed watching his son’s softball games and he never missed a one. He also loved being around his grandchildren. He is survived by two sons, Arthur “Mitch” C. Bowman and his wife, Lisa, of Cape Elizabeth and David Bowman and his wife, Gail, of Hermon; three brothers, Donald Bowman and his wife, Mary, of Skowhegan, Bruce Bowman and his wife, Nancy, of Cornville and Robert Bowman and his wife, Anita, of Harmony; one sister, Blanche Preney of Maryland; one stepson, Urban “Butch” Trojano of Hampden; two stepdaughters, Sandy St. Laurent and her husband, John, of Massachusetts, and Jackie Matteson and her husband, Paul, of Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Brianna, Chris, Evan and Aimee; a special friend, Judy Hilton of Skowhegan; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Richard Bowman, Carleton Bowman Linwood Bowman and Joseph Bowman; and two sisters, June Cayford and Jackie. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at East Ridge Cemetery, East Ridge Road, Cornville. Donations may be made in Arthur’s name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine, 87 Elm St., Suite 203, Camden, ME 04843. Arrangements are under the direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
