EAST MILLINOCKET – Arthur E. Lamson, 87, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at a local healthcare facility. He was born March 25, 1917, in Millinocket, the son of William Henry and Mina Belle (Jones) Lamson. Arthur attended Millinocket Schools and graduated from Stearns High School in 1936. Arthur served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Arthur worked for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad. He was a member of the East Millinocket Baptist Church and shared his life and faith with many including a mission trip to Haiti, and two trips to the Dominican Republic where he helped build schools and churches. Arthur had a wonderful sense of humor and one only had to look at him to see the mischievous twinkle in his eye, and that grin, to know he was up to something. Arthur loved people and they were drawn to him especially when you heard his laughter, or he shared one of his stories. Arthur touched many lives and had many friends. Arthur is survived by many nieces and nephews, including “the chip off his old block”, his niece, Anne Lamson; her brother, John Lamson; and her sister, Ruthie Birtz, all of Lincoln; his nephew, Doug Lamson (his motorcycle buddy) of Sweeny, Texas. He is also survived by many cousins including, Gloria and Gene Jones and their family in Millinocket. Arthur had no biological children, but Arthur adopted Warren and Kathy Steward and their children, Joshua, Amanda, Jordan and Andrea, as his own. He is also survived by many friends, including the nurses and staff of Katahdin Nursing Home and his much loved Bible Study Group. Arthur was predeceased by his wife, Pearl; and his brothers, Carroll, and George “Ivan” Lamson. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where members of the American Legion will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at the East Millinocket Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Lovestrand, pastor, officiating. Spring burial will be in Millinocket Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to East Millinocket Baptist Church.
