PRESQUE ISLE – Aubrey M. Smith, 77, died Jan. 5, 2005. He was born Nov. 9, 1927, the son of A. Howard and Louise (Jacques) Smith. He was married to June F. (Smith) Smith for 54 years and they had three children. Aubrey attended Presque Isle schools, Worcester Academy, Worcester, Mass., and Bryant Stratton School of Business in Boston. For a number of years he worked with his father in the local family business, A.M. Smith Hardware. Most of his professional life was spent in the accounting field. Aubrey was happiest when spending time with his family. Otherwise, you could find him working in his garden, enjoying NASCAR races, or watching any aircraft coming and going at the local airport. He is survived by his wife, June; two daughters, Darlene Scott and her husband, Timothy, and Libby Somerville and her husband, Rick; one son, Robbie Smith, and his wife, Karen; three grandchildren, Michael Aubrey Smith, Nicole Libby Smith, and Amelia Elspeth Scott; sister, Imogene Tillson, her husband, Tom, and their children; niece, Lura Lynne Walters; two nephews, William and James Bilderback; special sister-in-law and husband, Nannette and John Colton and their extended family. Aubrey opened his home to Grammy (Irma) Smith, Parker Smith, James Bilderback, and Ida B. Jacques; they each held a special place in his heart. Remembered by Aubrey and his family will be Sarah Anderson, Jennifer Bridges, Brian Colton, and Polly Burnett for their frequent gestures of support and, especially, Howard Everett, Clayton Coffin and Bob Hayden for a lifetime of friendship and their visits. He was predeceased by his sister, Lura (Smith) Bilderback; and two brothers-in-law, Frank A. Smith and Robert N. Smith. A service of remembrance will be held 1:30 Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at the United Church of Christ in Presque Isle. Family welcomes Aubrey’s friends and relatives to Fellowship Hall downstairs in the church following the service for a time of reminiscing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Crippled Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 735, Bangor, ME 04401.
