OLD TOWN – Audrey M. Simon, 69, wife of Bert Simon, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. She was born July 27, 1936, in Old Town, a daughter of Wilfred J. and Celia A. (Roy) Russell. Audrey was always willing to help others. She was very active and volunteered for many charitable causes and various organizations, including the Ladies Auxiliary for the VFW, Knights of Columbus and Elks. While a member of the Emblem Club, she served in the capacity of president. Family was important to Audrey and she spent much time with her children and grandchildren. She was a fixture on French Island, as she was born and raised and never moved from that part of Old Town. She was a 1953 graduate of Old Town High School. She retired from the University of Maine in 2003, after 27 years as a secretary for the counseling center. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bert Simon; three children, Michael Simon of Strong, Brenda Leavitt and her husband, Dan, of Orland, Cindy Enos and her husband, Tim, of Alton; five grandchildren, Robert, Missy and Melanie Enos, Kristen and Graham Leavitt; great-grandson, Kayden Barnett; eight siblings, Dawn Tremble and her husband, Rand, of Old Town, Norman Russell of Milford, Charlie Russell and his wife, Jane, of Alaska, Susan Batchelder and her husband, Roger, of Costigan, Bonnie Jipson and her husband, Archie, of Beech Hill, Steve Russell of Bradley, Ann King and her husband, Robert, of Hermon, Debra Hamm and her husband, James, of Alton; special great-nephew, Jacob Wood; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and a son, Bobby Simon in 1991. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, at Holy Family Parish, with the Rev. Wilfred Labbe, celebrant. Private burial services will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Immediately following the service, all are invited to the Holy Family Parish Center for a light luncheon and continued fellowship. Memorial contributions may be made to the Strong Nursing Home, P.O.
