BREWER – Avis D. Jordan, 91, wife of the late Robert A. Jordan for 44 years went home to be with her Lord Feb. 27, 2005, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born Jan. 15, 1914, in Brewer, the daughter of the late James and Florida (Carrow) DeVere Sr. Avis was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Brewer. She served many years as Youth Group leader with her husband Robert, was in the church choir, and also served as the Sunday school superintendent. Avis served on many church and community committees throughout her life. Surviving are her three children, Robert J. Jordan and his wife, Edie, of Blaine, Phyllis A. Jordan of Bangor, and Miriam “Mimi” King and her husband, David, of Brewer; sister, Charlotte Gray and her husband, Lester, of Brewer; six grandchildren, Jacquelyn Stancliff, Andrea and Paul Jordan, and Andrew, Adam, and Michael King; four great-grandchildren; five nieces and nephews. In addition to being predeceased by her husband, Robert; are her brother, James DeVere Jr.; sister, Jennie DeVere; and grandson, Mark R. Jordan. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Brookings-Smith Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at Calvary Baptist Church, 61 State St., Brewer, with the Rev. Roger Davis, pastor, officiating.
