CHARLOTTE and CALAIS – Barbara Brown Cox, 86, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at a Calais nursing home. Barbara was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Pembroke, daughter of Verner T. and Isabelle A. Brown. She attended schools in Pembroke and was a graduate of Pembroke High School. On April 15, 1939, she married Alton J. Cox of Charlotte. Barbara and Alton lived in Charlotte and raised three daughters, Helen, Carolyn and Lorraine. Barbara worked in the family owned business Sunset Packing Co. of Pembroke for many years. Later in life she was employed by the Charlotte school department until her retirement. She also enjoyed cooking summers at the YCC Camp in Baring. Barbara enjoyed going for rides with her family, family picnics, and adored her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the years, Barbara was a member of Charlotte Grange, Charlotte Extension and Eastern Star of Pembroke. Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Alton J. Cox; her daughter, Helen Cameron; brothers, Lt. Col. Donald T. Brown and James A. Brown; and grandsons, Christopher Pike and Kevin Furlong. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Arthur Furlong of Meddybemps, Lorraine and Wayne Pike of Calais; nine grandchildren, Gayle and Jeff Davis of Orrington, David and Billie-Jo Pike of Veazie, Brian Furlong and Heather Morrison of Brewer, Vicki and Dennis Jones of Pembroke, Douglas and Krista Cameron of Brunswick, Dana, Delinda and Darlene Cameron of Brunswick, Dwayne Cameron and Pat of Brunswick; 13 great-grandchildren, Megan Doane of Orrington, Lauren, Dan, and Ashley Davis of Orrington, Drew Jamison of Veazie, Audrey and Lee Pike of Veazie, Donna-Ray Furlong of Charlotte, Phoebe Boyland of Brunswick, Bret and Brady Chase of Brunswick, Deven Cameron of Brunswick, and Derek Cameron of Saco; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Brown of Pembroke and Betty Cox of Virginia; two special nieces, Charlotte Ross of Hermon and Jeanne White of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews. Barbara also leaves behind all her many friends at Atlantic Rehab in Calais. Friends may call 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastors Bob Hinton and Ernest James officiating. Burial will be at Round Pond Cemetery, Charlotte.
