GREENLAND, N.H. – Barbara E. (Gillespie) Sewall, 85, beloved wife of Elmer M. Sewall, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, with her devoted husband and family by her side at her home. Barbara was born Dec. 14, 1922, in Wilton, the daughter of Watt and Ruby (Raymond) Gillespie. Barbara was a graduate of Wilton Academy and Eastern Maine School of Nursing, which is now Husson College School of Nursing. Barbara was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, who dedicated her life to the welfare and care of her family. While a resident of Orono for 30 years, she was active in both church and community affairs. She was a dedicated member of the Orono School Board, as well as a volunteer for the March of Dimes. Barbara was twice a breast cancer survivor and touched many lives as a Reach To Recovery volunteer for the American Cancer Society in the Bangor area and New Hampshire Seacoast. She will be missed and remembered by her husband of 63 years, Elmer M. “Luke” Sewall; two daughters and their spouses, Janet S. and Robert N. Tibbetts of Middletown, Conn., and Margaret J. and Salvatore Ciriello of Middletown, Ohio; three sons and their spouses, Dr. Stephen A. and Mary Ann Sewall of Greenland N.H., Dr. Douglas M. and Katherine B. Sewall of Orono and David A. and Carmen N. Sewall of Biddeford; her cherished grandchildren, Kendra Wilson, Adam Sewall, Robin Sewall, Stephen Sewall, Frances Sewall, Katherine Tibbetts, Matthew Tibbetts, Marc Ciriello, Ian Ciriello, Nicholas Ciriello, Dayna Sewall and Brendon Sewall. Visiting hours will be held noon-1 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, N.H. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
