BANGOR – Barbara N. Bruns, 78, died March 4, 2008, surrounded by her loving family, at her home. She will be joining her loving husband, Bill, her true love who she has missed since his passing in 2004. She was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Bangor, the daughter of Roscoe and Florence (Springer) Nickerson. She was a longtime seamstress and taught sewing for many years. She was a lifelong member of All Souls Congregational Church, Bangor, where she taught Sunday school, contributed to church fairs, counseled at Pilgrim Lodge and attended the Woman’s Association meetings. Barbara was a member of King’s Daughters Home, Opera New England, and played in the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, making candy at Christmas, watching her grandchildren’s activities and going to the family camp on Love Lake. She especially enjoyed playing cards and won her last game playing with her children. Barbara’s life revolved around her family with whom she enjoyed spending time and teaching them many family traditions. She will be sadly missed by her children, Gail Bruns and Richard Cain of Corinth, William “Bud” Bruns III and special daughter-in-law, Sue, of Bangor, Peter and Debbie Bruns of Vancouver, Wash., Stephanie and special son-in-law, Fred Brown, of Bangor, Cassandra and special son-in-law, Scott Byorak, of Brewer; seven grandchildren, Amy Johnston, Eric Bruns, William H. Bruns IV, Danielle Brown, Nicholas Bruns, Ashley Sargent and Benjamin Byorak; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lillis Curtis of Brewer; a special brother, Richard Nickerson and his wife, Jo, of Skowhegan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bill; her parents, five sisters, one brother; and her grandson, Lance Cpl. Cedric Bruns, who died during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Family and friends may visit noon-1 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where a memorial service will begin 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher at All Souls Congregational Church, presiding. Interment will be private. Friends are invited for a time of continued fellowship beginning 4 p.m. at 1786 Union St., Bangor.
