SWANVILLE – Barbara R. Clark, passed away peacefully, Feb. 15, 2007, with her family by her side in Rochester, N.H. She was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Swanville, the daughter of Donald and Doris (Nickerson) Thayer. Barbara graduated from Crosby High School, Belfast and was valedictorian of her class. She went on to graduate from Westbrook Junior College in 1944. After marrying Howard W. Clark, they lived in Sanford, where she was active in the Congregational Church and taught Sunday school. They later moved to Rye, N.H., where Barbara was a Girl Scout leader, spent time with her “club” friends and was active in the Rye Bethany Church. She and Howard enjoyed spending time with family and friends and especially loved dancing. After retirement, they enjoyed many winters in Florida with family. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Howard W. Clark; and by a sister, Shirley Thayer. She is survived by daughters, Janet C. Young and husband, Dana, of Dover, N.H., and Nancy C. Foster and husband, Randy, of Belmont; grandchildren, Wendy Cogdill and husband, Del, Michael Young, Todd Foster, Adam Foster and wife, Debi; with great-grandsons, Alexander Foster and Jacob Foster. She will be remembered by Jane and Lucas Durfey, who loved Barbara as their Nana; two sisters, Marjorie Bowen of Hampden and Edith Hunter and husband, Bill, of Ocala, Fla., who will miss her very much. Marjorie was very devoted in helping with Barbara’s care for several years. She lovingly helped her and the family in many thoughtful ways, as did their dear friends, Ed and Sally. It is greatly appreciated. She is also survived by her wonderful sister-in-law, Adele Clark of Sanford; nieces and nephews, Judy Hudson, Robert Bowen, David Bowen, Amy Bowen and Arland Bowen. Barbara will be missed by many dear friends in Maine and New Hampshire. A special thanks to the staff of Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation of Rochester, N.H., for all their care and kindness to Barbara and the family. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Dr. Debra J. Hanson, pastor of the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church, officiating. A time of visitation will be 1 p.m. until time of service 2 p.m. Interment in the springtime will be at Green Lawn Cemetery, Swanville.
