STONINGTON – Barbara Eaton, 75, died Sept. 16, 2007, at a local health care facility, after a long illness. She was born Sept. 10, 1932, the daughter of Virgil and Mary (Nevells) Rice. She worked for Blue Hill Hospital for many years as a certified nurse’s aid. One of her greatest accomplishments was attending college as an adult and becoming a licensed practical nurse, LPN. She practiced as a LPN for several years in Florida after graduation. After returning to Maine in 1987, she worked at several nursing homes in southern Maine while living with her son in Scarborough. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Rebekahs and Stonington Church of the Nazarene. In her latter years, she enjoyed helping her son, Vigil, raise his son, Evan, her grandson, the light of her life. She had a loving and giving heart and will be missed by all those she encountered. She is survived by her sons CW4, U.S. Army Retired Michael Eaton and his wife, Rita, LCDR, U.S. Navy Retired Norman Eaton and his wife, Judy, Virgil Eaton and his wife, Kim; and by her daughters, Rosemary Haskell and her husband, Al, Paula Martin and her husband, Chris, and Annie Bee-man and her husband, Stanley; as well as 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nellie Eaton and Natalie Eaton; her aunt, Letha Bray and many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Craig Eaton, who helped her maintain her independence for many months. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 38 years, Llewellyn M. Eaton, in 1985; her youngest daughter, Lynnette, in 1994; her sisters, Helen Gray and Rebecca Guptill; and her brother, David Rice. The family expresses their appreciation to the Island Nursing Home and Homeport, with a special thanks to Becky Siebert, to Blue Hill Memorial Hospital staff with heartfelt thanks to Dr. Babbitt and very special thank you from the entire family for their many acts of kindness to her friends, Julia Gilmore and Milton Small. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 15 Thurlow’s Hill, Stonington, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, with the Rev.
