MILO – Barbara W. Doble, 86, died Aug. 6, 2006, surrounded by her family at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. She was born March 29, 1920, in Derby, a daughter of Alfred and Esther (Grindle) Weymouth. She attended local schools and graduated from Milo High School. Barbara worked outside the home most of her life. She was employed by the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad, A.A. Clark Furniture Store, New England Telephone and Telegraph as an operator, Foshay’s Furniture, Pullen’s Clothing and the Treasure Chest Gift Shop. Barbara was active in her community. She was a member of the Park Street United Methodist Church, where she had served as chairperson of the Health and Concern Council, chairperson of the Ecumenical Food Cupboard and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was a member and twice president of the Ayuda Club, member of the Milo Garden Club and the Neighborly Christmas Club. She was a member of Aldworth Chapter No. 39 OES and mother advisor of the Brownville Assembly No. 25 Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was holder of the Grand Cross of Colors awarded by the Rainbow Girls. Barbara also served on the town budget committee. Barbara was predeceased by her first husband, Robert H. McClain; her second husband, Benjamin C. Doble; her parents; her sister, Leah Alfreda Brilliant; and her three brothers, Paul, Alfred and Duane Weymouth. She is survived by her daughter, Esther L. and husband, Alfred A. Bushway of Veazie; grandson, Christopher A. Bushway and wife, Kerry; great-grandchildren, Olivia and Isaac, all of Bangor; sisters-in-law, Jane D. Annis, Beverly Jamison and Elaine Blethen; a brother-in-law, James Bates; a very dedicated and helpful niece, Valerie “Susie” Ricker; and many nieces and nephews, who were all special in their own way to “Aunt Barbie.” Also, Barbara will be remembered by many wonderful friends in the Milo area. The family wishes to thank all the dedicated, caring and wonderful staff at the Maine Veterans’ Home for taking care of Barbie and her family during the past five months. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Lary Funeral Home, Milo. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Park Street United Methodist Church, Milo, with the Rev. Michele St. Cyr officiating.
