FAIRFIELD – Barbara June Wright, 76, of Fairfield, passed away Sept. 8, 2005, after a long illness at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Ms. Wright was born in Caribou, daughter of Millard and Alta (Argraves) Wright. She graduated from Caribou High School in 1946. She attended Ricker College, Green Mountain College and graduated from University of Maine, Orono in 1950. She taught physical education in the Bridgton, Auburn and Skowhegan schools for 30 years and retired in 1980. She was a member of The Alpha Kappa Chapter of Tri Delta Sorority, Somerset Retired Teachers, Maine Retired Teachers, National Education Association, Maine Association of Retirees and University of Maine Alumni. Barbara enjoyed her years of retirement traveling, especially to St. Augustine, Fla. every year. One of her other favorite activities, for more than 20 years, was participating on a local volleyball team at the Waterville Boys and Girls Club. She also enjoyed camping and bird watching. Ms. Wright is survived by two sisters, Joyce Holdsworth of Caribou, and Henrietta Wheeler Manley of Cape Elizabeth; one niece, Bonnie Vaughan of Cumberland; four great-nephews, Scott Wheeler Vaughan, Sean Smith Vaughan, Edmund “Ted” and Francis “Mico” McGuire; many cousins, and long time friend and companion, Carolyn Somers, and her son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Lorraine Somers. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the United Methodist Church, Rte. 201, Fairfield. Burial will be 3:30 p.m. Sept. 24, 2005, at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 980 Turner St., Auburn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Northeast Affiliate, Cornerbrook 343 Gorham Rd., South Portland, ME 04106.
