CHERRYFIELD – Barney I. Smith Sr., 86, passed away April 11, 2005, in Bangor. He was born April 1, 1919, in Columbia, Maine the son of the late Ira R. and Carmen P. (Fickett) Smith. Anyone who knew Barney will remember what a special, kind hearted, and hard working man he was. He loved country music and was a talented musician. He loved to watch his sons racing their cars. Barney enjoyed working outdoors for most of his life. Driving his car around town was a favorite pastime. Barney lived a full and happy life. He was blessed with a large family of sons, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Barney was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude May (Dorr) Smith; and five of his children, Eddie, Larry, Kingsley, Bobby, and Wendy. He is survived by his sister, Jerry Faulkner and her spouse; his children, Barney Smith Jr., Linda Dunkin, Doug Smith Sr., Randy Smith, and Nancy Perry and their spouses; a special nephew, Denny Smith; 37 grandchildren, and 48 great-grandchildren. A special thank you goes to Lorraine for all of her years of care. Our father, grandfather, and friend will be missed tremendously, yet his spirit will live on through our stories of him. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Milbridge.
