PATTEN – Barton “Bart” Dean Merry, 74, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008. He was born June 12, 1933, in Sherman Mills, the son of Charles and Maria (Dickinson) Merry. Bart served his country as a member of the U.S. Army stationed in Korea, 1955-1956. He retired in 1984 from Great Northern Paper Co., where he worked for 25 years as a foreman at Telos woods camp. After retiring, he loved having his grandsons for weekend visits, camping on the Maine coast in the summer, working with the biscuit crew at the bean hole bean dinner at the Lumbermen’s Museum and attending the annual Merry family reunion. Bart was especially proud of being a member of the “Liars Club” and their daily meetings at Pa’s. He showed an enormous amount of heartfelt compassion and concern for all of the people in his life. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ann (Grant); one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Joel Coon; two grandsons, Andrew and Grant; brothers, Linwood and wife, Clyde, and Conrad and wife, Beverly; sister-in-law, Joyce; sister-in-law and husband, Christine and Donald Shorey; and brother-in-law, Donald Grant. There was a place in his heart for all of his nieces and nephews; as well as his special pug, Rocky. He was predeceased by his parents; his stepmother, Winnie; his brother, Barry; brother-in-law, Leon; and sister-in-law, Gayle. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
