ASHLAND – Bernadette “Bubby” Long, 76, died unexpectedly Aug. 6, 2004, at the Aroostook Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 29, 1928, in Sheridan, the daughter of Edward and Alexina (Fournier) Despres. She is survived and will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 54 years, Norman J. “Shorty” Long of Ashland; two sons, Norman R. “Dick” Long and his wife, Kathy, of Presque Isle, Patrick Long and his wife, Tracy, of Ashland; two very special grandchildren, Christopher and Danielle Long of Ashland; two sisters, Fern Jimmo of Pennsylvania, and Delores McPherson of Saco; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Bunny was predeceased by two brothers, Floribert Despres and Edward Despres Jr.; and by one sister, Donalda LaBontie; and a long-time companion, their family dog, Fluffy. Bunny was a lifetime member of St. Mark’s Parish and Sodality, and was the church organist for many years. She was also one of the organizers of the Ashland Fire Department Auxiliary. Bunny was employed by the State of Maine as clerk and manager of the State Liquor Store in Ashland, retiring in 1992. She had many fond memories of socializing with her friends and of family trips and gatherings at their camp at St. Froid Lake. Relatives and friends may call at the St. Mark Catholic Church from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday and from 11 a.m. until time of service on Monday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at the church with Father Scott Mower, former pastor and Father Michael V. Hinken, SOLT, pastor, concelebrants.
