ST. AGATHA – Bernadette Michaud, 79, died June 17, 2008, at a Fort Kent hospital, after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 7, 1928, in St. Agatha, daughter of Olivier and Maria (Boss?) Chamberland. She was a member of Ladies of St. Anne and American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 145 of Frenchville. Prior to retiring in 1988, she was the co-owner of Michaud Furniture and Michaud Funeral Home, along with her husband, Sam. She graduated in 1946 from Notre Dame De LaSagasse. She also taught school in a one-room school in the back settlements of St. Agatha from 1947 to 1948. She then went on to school in Canada and became a professional seamstress. Sam and Bernadette were married Oct. 25, 1949. Bernadette was an avid craftsman and gardener-jack-of-all-trades. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Samuel; one daughter, Karen and her husband, John Charles Michaud, of St. Agatha; two grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Mark Jellison, of South Portland, and Chad and his wife, Robyn, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Abby and Andrew Jellison and Maddison Michaud; two brothers, Roch of Plainville, Conn., and Robert and his wife, Viola, of St. Agatha; three sisters and their husbands, Jacqueline and Jim Nye of Wallingford, Conn., Rachel and Norman Doucette of Bloomfield, Conn., and Marie Claire and Dick Cormier of Newington, Conn.; two sisters- in-law, Marie Mae Chamberland and Bertille Beaulieu; sev-eral nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Jean Paul and Joel; and one sister, Geralda Vincent. Friends and relatives may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. until the time of services Friday at Michaud Funeral Home, St. Agatha. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Valley Church, St. Agatha, with the Rev. Phil Cyr officiating. Burial will be at St. Agatha Lower Cemetery.
