OAKFIELD – Bernard Blakney Nadeau, 92, passed away peacefully Feb. 18, 2008, at Madigan Estates. He was born May 13, 1915, in Oakfield, the son of Paul and Nellie (Corliss) Nadeau. Bernard was raised at the Nadeau Homestead, where he farmed until his retirement. He was a true tiller of the soil, raising his crops and tending his prize herd of Hereford cattle. Active in the community, he served on the board of selectmen, budget committee and served as deputy sheriff. He was a past member of the Maine Potato Growers, Subordinate, Pomona and Maine State Grange. He enjoyed hunt-ing and fishing with his old buddies at the Lougee Camp on Howe Brook Lake and telling his grandchildren the tall tales of the fish he had caught and the deer he shot. Another of his passions was teaching his sons the basics of carpentry, welding, bulldozing and tree harvesting. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Iona (Brewer) Nadeau; their six children, Jay Nadeau and his wife, Betty, of Howland, Robert W. Nadeau and his wife, Penny, of Merrill, Nancy N. Bragan and her friend, Larry Sanford, of Smy-rna, Michael P. Nadeau and his wife, Phyllis, of Oakfield, Sally A. Lewin and her husband, Curtis, of Presque Isle and John B. Nadeau and his wife, Lori, of Oakfield; grandchildren, Andy Nadeau of Green Lake, Chad and Freda Nadeau of West Enfield, Missy Nadeau of Lincoln, Terri Lynn and Bill Connolly of Manchester, N.H., Robbie and Traci Nadeau of Dyer Brook, Brian and Molly Bragan, Tim and Theresa Bragan, Paul and Becky Nadeau, and Lucas Nadeau, all of Houlton, Jay and Mitsy Lee of Smyrna, Iona Lee of Chicago, Jonathan Nadeau of Bangor and Kelli Nadeau of Oakfield; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Ashley, Jake, Kelly, Rochelle, Wyatt, Emma, Olivia, Silas and Micah Nadeau, Matthew Landry, Malloree Workman, Cameron and Calleigh Connolly, Courtney, Mitchell, Jordan, Josh and Lauren Bragan, Hannah, Madelyn, Isaac and Sadie Lee; nephews, Leonard Lougee of Dyer Brook, Paul Nadeau of New Hampshire, and James Nadeau of Easton; a niece, Beth Conaway of Virginia. He was predeceased by his sisters, Pauline Lougee, June Ward and Geneva Nadeau; his brothers, Don, Gus, Herbert, Wellman and Benno; and his son-in-law, Brian Bragan. The family wishes to thank the staff at Madigan Estates, Mountain Heights Nursing Home and Houlton Progressive Care Unit for the wonderful care that he received during his confinement. Also, to his pastors and friends for the visitations, the cards and well wishes sent to him. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at Bethel Pentecostal Church, Oakfield, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Rick Carver and Pastor Sterling Lawrence officiating. A time of fellowship will be at the church after the service. Interment will be in the spring in the family plot in Oakfield.
