TAMWORTH, N.H. – Bernard Martin Jennings, 87, longtime Tamworth, N.H. resident, died Dec. 26, 2005, in Tampa, Fla. Born Jan. 27, 1918, the son of the late Dwight Jennings and the late Mabel (Kehl) Brown. His early years were spent in Winchester, N.H., where he married the former Emily Hill in 1939. He was a graduate of Thayer High School, Class of 1936. He was an Army veteran who served during World War II. After the war he moved to Tamworth, N.H. with his family and worked for 10 years as a forester/surveyor for New England Lumber Company. He and his family also built the Market in the Pines grocery store. He later worked for the state of New Hampshire as a right-of-way abstractor. He loved the outdoors and spent his free time gardening, hunting, fishing, motorcycling and walking. He helped in the organization of Troop 151 of the Boy Scouts of America and served as leader for 10 years. One early project of this active troop was the clearing of the original town meeting site above Tamworth’s Ordination Rock. He always enjoyed hearing from his former scouts. He is survived by his wife, Emily; a son, Dale and his wife, Marianne, of Henniker, N.H.; and a daughter, Linda of San Francisco, Calif. Five sons previously deceased him, Paul, Daniel, Alan, Kevin and Keith; and one granddaughter, Holly. Other survivors are 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. An informal gathering is planned 2 p.m. May 7, 2006, at his residence in Tamworth, N.H.
