MACHIAS – Bernard O. Hatt, 65, died Oct. 31, 2005, at a Machias hospital after a long courageous battle with heart disease. He was born in Machias, March 22, 1940, the son of George W. and Mildred (Gay) Hatt. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Ephriam H. Johnson Post No. 9 American Legion at Machias. Before joining the military, he worked at Hawkin’s Service in Machias. Upon his return, he owned and operated Hattl’s Sunoco, Hatt’s Taxi and Hatt’s Used Cars. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and pig roasts out to camp with all his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Bricker) Hatt of Machias; two sons, Andrew Hatt of Machias and Jonathan Newell of East Machias; one daughter, Patricia Whitney of Machias; two granddaughters, Rebecca Whitney and Stephanie Newell of Machias; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Eric, Ellson, Manard and George; four sisters, Rebecca, Nellie, Lillian and Ida. Relatives and friends are invited to join in the memorial of Bernard O. Hatt, 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at the Ephriam H. Johnson Post No. 9 American Legion in Machias.
