BELFAST – Bernice l. (Young) Waterman, 84, died unexpectedly June 24, 2008, surrounded by her loved ones, at Waldo County Hospital. She was born March 28, 1924, in Brookline, Mass., the daughter of Jenness and Sarah (Oxenham) Young. She graduated from Westwood High School and Peabody School of Cosmetology, Norwood, Mass. On June 4, 1944, she was married to Homer Mills Waterman of Johnson, Vt. They moved to Belfast from Sharon, Mass., in 1968. Bernie was the primary caregiver and kept the home fires burning while Homer made his living “going to sea.” They were married for 62 years and had seven children, Bernice Coulter of Palermo, Leslie A. Glover of Waldoboro, Charles Waterman of Montpelier, Vt., Holly D. Johnson of China, Sharon L. Waterman of Marshfield, Mass., Stacey H. Williams of China and Lois F. Cross of Belmont. Bea was predeceased by her parents, her husband; a brother, Walter Jenness Young; and a sister, Evelyn Beatrice Walsh. In addition to her children, she is survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 95 Court St., Belfast. The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
