ROQUE BLUFFS – Bertman E. Preston Sr., 68, died peacefully Dec. 11, 2007, after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 13, 1939, in Roque Bluffs, the seventh child of Horace Preston Sr. and Minnie (Morse) Preston. He was a 1957 graduate of Machias High School. After graduation, Bert served in the U.S. Army for three years, one year in Korea in Company B, 40th Armor Division. Upon completing his military service, he worked the earlier half of his life in the foundation business in Portland, and the latter as a fisherman in Roque Bluffs. Bert was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed the outdoors. He is survived by three daughters and one son, Cindy and her husband, Tim Brochu, Maggie and her husband, Jimmy Dahl, Kathy and her husband, Herman Bryson, and Bert Preston Jr. and his wife, Debbie (Blyther) Preston. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Zachary, Benjamin and Grace Brochu, Cassandra, Amanda and Nicholas Preston, Joseph Moore Jr., Courtney and Jacob Dahl, Quincy and William Bryson, and Daniel Wood; four great-grandsons, three sisters, five brothers; and his friend, Emma Gaudet. A service will be held 1 p.m. Dec. 22, at Roque Bluffs Community Chapel with the Rev. Gini King officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be held immediately after at Roque Bluffs Community Club. Remembrances may be made in Bert’s name to the Palliative Care Suite, Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
