WINSLOW and SARASOTA, Fla. – Bertram W. Berube, 76, died April 25, 2008, in Sarasota, Fla. He was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Caswell, the son of Wilfred G. and Helen (Daigle) Berube. Bert graduated from Van Buren Boys High School in 1948 and attended the University of Maine, Orono. He was employed 38 years as a Union Ironworker with Local 496, now known as Local 7, until his retirement in 1989. After retirement, he taught in the Ironworker’s Apprenticeship Program at Ironworker’s Hall, Clinton. Bert was an avid and accomplished pool player. He enjoyed many hours competing with friends at Waterville Elks Lodge No. 905 and Fairfield American Legion. He will always be loved and fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his hearty laugh and his strong will “to do things his way.” He was a member of the 4th Degree Assembly No. 0366, Knights of Columbus Council No. 2638 of Madawaska. He was a lifetime member of Waterville Elks Lodge No. 905, where he served as a trustee for five years. In addition, Bert served on the board of directors of Meadowview Estates Condo Association of Winslow and on the board of directors of Village Lake Condo Association of Sarasota, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Bradbury) Berube; two stepdaughters, Laura Marcoux and her partner, Ellen Dyer, and their daughter, Megan of Topsham and Leslie and Trey Johnson of Sarasota, Fla.; two sons, Phillip of Madawaska and Patrick of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Elaine and Brent Schrock of Cortez, Colo., and Lori and David Dumont of Bangor; nine grandchildren, Ben Berube of Medford, Mass., Sharon and Andrew Berube of Madawaska, Lisa Corrigan of Colorado Springs, Colo., Nathan Ekola of Montrose, Colo., Peter Ekola of Germany, Crystal Beaulieu of Frenchville, Derek Dumont of Bangor and Alexander Johnson of Sarasota, Fla.; three great-grandchildren, Rachell, Joanna and Gabriel Corrigan of Colorado Springs, Colo; four sisters, Sylvia Raines of Van Buren, Lorraine Redwine of St. David, Lena Levasseur of Fort Myers, Fla., and Marilyn Chasse of Madawaska; one brother, Verne Berube of Orlando, Fla.; and also dear friends, Ray Pelletier and Martha of Winslow. Bert was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred and Helen Berube; one sister, Winnifred Whalen; one brother, Roderick; one son, David; and one grandson, Matthew. At Bert’s request, there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bert’s memory to Helen D.
