BANGOR – Bess Selma Tabenken, 95, died Jan. 27, 2008. She was born in Everett, Mass., the daughter of Joseph and Rebecca (Shafferman) Berkowitz, and raised in Chelsea, Mass. Bess was the wife of the late Morris Tabenken. She was a longtime Bangor resident, a member of Congregation Beth Israel, an active member of the Bangor Garden Club, an avid golfer and bridge player. She was predeceased by her brother, Milton Berkowitz of Naugatuck, Conn.; dear friend, Sid Howe of Belfast; and daughter-in-law, Helen Ta-benken of Framingham, Mass. Bess is survived by a son, Harry Tabenken of West Roxbury, Mass.; grandson, David Tabenken of Boston; granddaughter, Marcia Tabenken and her husband, Jeff Kolodney; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Alexandra; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held noon Tuesday, Jan. 29, at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, Center Street, Bangor, with Rabbi Darah Lerner officiating. Interment will be at Beth Israel Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be sent to a charity of your choice. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith, Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the services.
