ROBBINSTON – Betty Jane Garriott, 66, died June 26, 2004, surrounded by the family she loved at a Calais hospital following a long illness. She was born Nov. 15, 1937, in Perry, the daughter of Percy and Winifred (McPhail) Bishop. She was a member of the Lioness Club, the St. Croix Country Club and Sherman Bros. Post No. 3 American Legion Auxiliary, all of Calais. She was also a member of the Robbinston Historical Society. Betty worked for many years as legal secretary to Francis A. Brown. Betty bestowed love on the lives of those people whom she touched, with her gentle presence, generosity and joy. But it was her love of life and her happy spirit that forever will keep Betty in the hearts of so many. Who will never forget her laugh and that smile that reached in and touched the inner chambers of your soul. Betty was one of those unique women who, when she walked into a room full of people, she lit it up. It is that joy of having known her that will be a lasting legacy of her life here on earth. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jerald “Butch” Garriott of Robbinston; one son, Jerry Garriott and his wife, Monica, of North Wildwood, N.J.; two daughters, Kim Susan Sermersheim and her husband, John, of Perry, Robin Bouchard and her husband, John, of Robbinston; four brothers, Harry Bishop of Perry, Robert Bishop and his wife, Pat, of Calais, Herbert Bishop and his wife, Kathy, Dwight Bishop and his wife, Brenda, all of Perry; grandchildren, Jessica Sermersheim of Perry, Amanda Sermersheim of Bangor, J.W. Garriott and Christopher Garriott of North Wildwood, N.J., Kayla Cobb of Robbinston; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. June 30, 2004, at the Perry Congregational Church, with the Reverend Ronald and Colin Windhorst officiating. Following graveside services at the Brewer Cemetery, friends are invited to the St. Croix Country Club for a gathering.
