BANGOR – Beulah Bickford, 88, died Oct. 16, 2005, surrounded by family and friends after a short battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Bangor, the daughter of Harry Mittenthal and Lucy May (Young) Mittenthal. She was the wife of the late LeRoy “Roy” Bickford. During their 53 years together, they enjoyed buying and remodeling many homes. She and Roy were well-known in the Bangor area, he as a cook and she as a waitress. They owned Roy’s Variety and then Roy’s Lunch where they met and made many life-long friends. After retirement, Beulah and Roy moved to Florida. While she lived in Florida, she enjoyed her many new friends. She was proud of her seven years of volunteer work at the Zephyrhills Library where she received a certificate of appreciation from the City of Zephyrhills. After returning to Bangor in 2002 to be with her children and grandchildren, she got to share many family gatherings which she was a big part of. To her, each time the family was together was better than the last. Always up for an outing, if someone called and said do you want to go, she was ready. All those that knew her will miss her love of life and laughter. She is survived by three sons, Bernard “Sonny” and his wife, Susanne, of Corinth, Gary and his wife, Shirley, of Carmel and William “Bill” and his wife, Charlotte, of Cumberland Foreside; one stepson, Edwin, of Durham, N.H.; three grandchildren, Scott of Berwick, Sharon, of Milton, N.H., Belinda of Milford; and five great-grandsons, Gary, Joey, Darren Swobda, Ryan Bean and Nicholas Bickford. Her husband; a daughter, Carol Ann; and a special person in her life, Cathy (Bickford) Tibbets, predeceased her. She will be missed by her many friends in Florida, Maine and especially the Golden Girls at the Freese’s Building who were there for her in time of need. A Memorial funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Essex Street, Bangor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beulah’s memory to Hope Hospice, Eddington, ME 04428 or to the Cancer Fund. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
