ORRINGTON – Beulah (Perkins) Bowden, 92, quietly joined her beloved husband, the late Clifford E. Bowden, July 19, 2005, surrounded by the love of her devoted daughters. She was born May 3, 1913, in Orrington, the daughter of Raymond and Gladys (Hillier) Perkins. A life-long resident of Orrington, Beulah was a graduate of Brewer High School and the Maine School of Commerce. Beulah was secretary to the supply officer at Dow Air Force Base during World War II. She went on to State government service at the former Bangor State Hospital as a medical secretary and records librarian, ending her 27 year career as the secretary to the superintendent of BMHI in 1978. Beulah was truly a remarkable, unforgettable spirit who touched and improved the world she lived in. She was a strong Christian woman whose faith was deeply ingrained in her life, and her pure love changed the lives and paths of countless individuals. Her humility, patience, youthful outlook on life and her joyful good humor left an indelible mark on her little corner of the world. She was admired and loved by many, and will be in our hearts forever. She is survived by two daughters, Janice E. Mitchell and her husband, Warren, of Orrington, Lisa J. Bowden and boyfriend, Mark E. Gilleland of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; her siblings, Thelma Bowden, Raymond L. Perkins, Jr. and his wife, Louise, all of Orrington, Jeanette Durgain of Arizona; five grandchildren, Scott Costa and wife, Jen, of Frankfort, Lori Hayden and husband, Scott of Milford, JoAnna Mason and husband, Joshua of Augusta; Duncan Cheney and Jennifer Hood of Hallowell; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Hayden, Calvin and Lorelei Mason; many beloved nieces and nephews all over the globe. She will also be deeply missed by special friends, David Cheney of Ellsworth, and Ken and Diane McGrath of Brewer. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Richard R. Noyes, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Orrington, officiating. Private interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Orrington.
