ELLSWORTH – Brenda Eileen Layman, 54, passed away peacefully Nov. 26, 2005, in Ellsworth. She was born Nov. 15, 1951, in Jonesport, the daughter of Russell O. and Gloria (Allen) Hayward. Brenda graduated from the University of Maine at Machias and worked for more than 20 years at Porter Memorial Library in Machias. She also enjoyed working part-time at the Columbia Falls Pottery Shop. Brenda had a great love of books and took great pleasure in sharing that love with others. She also loved all things dealing with nature and spent many hours studying the flora and fauna of the area. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, William M. Layman; her beloved sons, Benjamin of Boston, Mass., Alexander and his wife, Brittany, of Bradley, William “Billy” of Columbia Falls; her mother, Gloria Allen Hayward; sister, Belinda and husband, Michael Wienenger; and brother, Brent Hayward all of Milbridge; a cousin, Kenneth Strout and wife, Linda, of Hermon; a special aunt, Caroline Fellows of Portland; and a special friend, and co-worker, Greg Williams of Columbia Falls. An informal memorial will be held to celebrate Brenda’s life 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Columbia Falls Community Building.
