SHAPLEIGH – Brent A. Lea-vitt, 55, passed away Aug. 7, 2007, surrounded by his family after a brief ill-ness at home. Brent was born to Sterling and Olive Leavitt, both who predeceased him. Brent graduated from Brewer High School in 1970, served in the U.S. Naval Security Group in Sabama Seca, Puerto Rico, and Keflavik, Iceland, and was honorably discharged in April 1976. He went on to attend and graduate from the University of Maine -Machias in 1977 and obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine in Orono in 1978. Brent enjoyed a respectful relationship with the many companies he worked with in the construction field through his 29-year career. He was especially appreciative of the consideration shown to him by Geoff Lake of Boston Towing and Transportation in recent months. Brent leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Paula; and his best friend and son, Benjamin of Derry, N.H. He is also survived by Patricia Ellis and husband, Hugh, of Florida and Ellsworth, and Eleanor Carlisle and husband, Arden, of Surry; his brother-in-law, David W. Reed and his wife of Holden; a nephew, several nieces, an uncle and several cousins. He also leaves behind special longtime friends, John and Irene Douglas of Brewer. Brent will be fondly remembered for his kind manner, keen insight and curiosity, sense of humor and talent for penning his thoughts. At Brent’s request, there will be no funeral service, but a celebration of his life will be held for family and friends 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at 118 Acadia Lane, Surry.
