PALMYRA – Burton E. Jones, 84, passed away Jan. 15, 2005, at his residence. He was born July 17, 1920, in Augusta, the son of Charles E. and Eva (Burton) Jones. He graduated from Hartland Academy in 1939 he then served in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in the 82nd Airborne 325th Regiment. He married Edith Mercier on Sept. 3, 1941, in Hartland. He was employed by General Waterworks as manager of the Hartland Water Company for 17 years. He was a past member of the Hartland and St. Albans Lyons Club, past member of the Hartland Masonic Lodge and he was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edith of Palmyra; a daughter, Deatra Trenholm and her husband, Don, of York; one sister, Gail Gross of Bangor; two grandchildren, Heather Cleary and her husband, Sean, of Wakefield, Mass., Steven Trenholm of Allston, Mass.; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Jan. 20, 2005, at Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Avenue, Pittsfield, with the Rev. George Darling officiating.
