HUDSON – Calvert E. Allen Sr., the husband of Doris (Hamm) Allen, passed away peacefully April 1, 2008, in Bangor, with his family by his side. He was born Aug. 1, 1933, in Brewer, the son of John and Clarice (Sprague) Allen. He loved working in the woods with his son, Calvert Allen Jr.; and his grandsons, John and Joe Hendren, Dana Sands Jr. and Dan Layton II. He loved to play his accordion and also his harmonica. In addition to his wife, Doris of Hudson, he is survived by a son, Calvert E. Allen Jr. of Hudson; three daughters, Beverly Sands and her husband, Dana, of Hudson, Norma Layton of Hudson, and Frances McAlpine and her husband, Wade, of Hudson; four sisters and a brother, Clara, Carolyn, Kathleen, Phyllis and Gerald; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a niece, a nephew and many friends, especially Ronnie Brasslett, Norman Barriault; and sister-in-law, Sue Allen, who was very special to him. Calvert was predeceased by four brothers, Clifford, Ralph, John and Ronnie. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with Pastor Garnett Chute officiating.
