BELMONT – Carl Augustus Hodges, 70, died March 27, 2007, at Togus VA Hospital. He was born Aug. 24, 1936, in Belfast, son of Clark and Helen (Swanbeck) Hodges. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Carl enjoyed everything to do with the outdoors. One of his hobbies was model trains, which he enjoyed with his grandson. Carl served as fire chief of Belmont for 10 years and also was a selectman in Belmont for 10 years. He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, June. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Pauline (Colby) Hodges of Belmont; a daughter, Susan M. Hodges of Belmont; sisters, Jane Parish of Belfast, and Sally Dutton and husband, Roger, of Waldo; two grandsons and one granddaughter, many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Carl’s life will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Belmont Community Building. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to Beals Hospitality House, 1 VA Center, Togus, ME 04330. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
