SOUTHINGTON, CONN. -Carl E. Sherman, 66, of 173 Dunham St., Southington, Conn., died unexpectedly Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Katherine (Hersey) Sherman and father of Wendy Sherman of Colchester, Conn. Mr. Sherman was born Nov. 3, 1938, in Island Falls, the son of the late Ralph and Mae (Parker) Sherman. He was a retired employee of Marino Crane Service where he worked for more than over 18 years and was a former employee of Shapiro Equipment Co. in Newington. A Southington resident since 1963, he was a volunteer fireman for more than 30 years and was one of the founding members of Company 5. He refurbished antique trucks and even built a car that he would drive in local parades with his dog, Scotchie. In addition to his wife of 43 years and his daughter, he is survived by brothers, Philip Sherman of Smyrna Mills, Robert Sherman of Island Falls; and a sister, Connie Bartlett of Oakfield; and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Bill Sherman. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 North Main St., Southington. Calling hours 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Maine.
