TREMONT – Carleton David Dow, 70, died May 1, 2006, in Tremont. He was born Jan. 4, 1936, in Tremont, the son of Pearl Henry and Louise (Moore) Dow. After graduating from Pemetic High School in 1954, he attended Maine Maritime Academy and served in the Navy. His working career consisted of lobster fishing, boat captain and caretaker to list a few. Baseball was Carleton’s passion, but he was also on a state basketball championship team in high school. He also enjoyed fishing, puzzles, and being on the water, reading, gardening and gathering at the wharf with his fellow fisherman and especially enjoyed family get togethers. He was a member of the Tremont Congregational Church and a former member of the Knights of Pythius. Carleton is survived by his wife of 50 years, December 12, Carol Ann (Martin) Dow; five sons, Gregory Dow and wife, Carrie, of Tremont, Peter Dow and wife, Susan, of Grand Rapids, Mich., James Dow and wife, Annette, of Bar Harbor, Donald Dow and wife, Angela, of Ellsworth and Dennis Dow and wife, Alice, of Casco; two brothers, Philip Dow and wife, Mary, of Tremont and Harvey Dow and wife, Nancy, of Thorofare, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Lisa Parsons, Cassandra Crabtree, Blythe, Mallory, Megan, Mackenzie, Madeliene, and Delaney Dow; and one great-granddaughter, Shelby Parsons. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother, Alfred. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the Tremont Congregational Church with Reverend Wayne Buchanan officiating.
